Our story

How the title of Expat psychologist was born

When I first arrived in the Netherlands over a decade ago, a Dutch colleague mentioned something that surprised me – there wasn’t a single practice dedicated specifically to helping expats. He said to me, “Why don’t you start one? You have both the education and the expat experience to truly understand what they’re going through.”

That idea stayed with me.
Having lived in different countries myself, I understood the unique challenges expats face – loneliness, cultural adjustment, identity shifts, and the constant process of starting over. Combined with my background in psychology, I realized I could make a real difference.

And that’s how the title “Expat Psychologist” was born.
Soon after, I opened my own practice in the Netherlands (and later in Switzerland) and became the first to specialize exclusively in supporting expats.

Our Mission Today

At Expat Psychologist, we’ve grown far beyond that initial idea.
Today, our team supports not only expats, but also their partners and children, helping entire families adjust and thrive abroad.

Our clients come from all walks of life – ambassadors, international students, professionals working for global companies, NGOs, and UN organizations. Each brings their own story, culture, and challenges — and we’re honored to walk beside them on their journey.

Our goal is simple:
To ensure that every expat knows that help is available, compassionate, professional, and tailored to their experience.
