Being an expat myself, I fully understand the challenges of relocation and the overwhelming feelings that come with having to deal with many unknowns on new terrain. As a psychologist, I help people to feel better equipped to face their personal challenges and to change unproductive patterns in thought, behaviour and emotions. As a result, people feel stronger, freer, and more self-confident.
“Truth is relative to the point of view from which it is perceived. What I look as and where I look from determine my perception of truth. Everyone, from their viewpoint, is seeing truth.
Since 2016, I have been working as a psychologist in the Netherlands and the United States in the field of psycho-oncology, the field of (behavioural) addiction and clinical psychology. I am experienced in the treatment of psychological difficulties, such as anxiety, addiction, trauma, depression, difficulties in adaptive functioning in ADHD and autism, adjustment issues, and in relationship counselling. I am trained in interventions and treatment protocols from various evidence-based therapy orientations, such as EMDR, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and the Gottman method.
As every person’s situation and relationship is different, I will develop a plan in collaboration with you, that suits your specific situation and your goals.
In 2022 I moved to the Geneva area to pursue my passion for mountain activities, such as climbing, hiking, trail running, and cross-country skiing. Spending time in the mountains help me to become more self-reliant and to develop resiliency skills through challenge, discovery, and reflection. Beside my love for nature, do I love to work with people. It is highly rewarding and meaningful to me to (temporarily) be part of a person’s life journey.
Eye Movement Desensitisation (EMDR):
A powerful, very effective method that allows the brain to process traumatic memories. It reduces the symptoms of unprocessed unpleasant (traumatic) life experiences, including experiencing a (car) accident, getting sick, losing a job or a loved one, witnessing a robbery, having been in a war situation, or in an abuse situation. It is also used in the treatment of burn out, addiction, performance anxiety and low self-esteem issues. The therapy does not require talking in detail about the unpleasant event(s) and is broaden part of a broader treatment plan.
Couple therapy by The Gottman Method:
The Gottman method a research-based therapy that aims to help couples build stronger relationships. The therapy generally involves between six to twelve sessions and is focused on helping couples to develop the skills and understanding they need to manage their relationship difficulties. The therapy is designed to help people at any stage of their relationship, regardless of race, class, or sexual orientation.
Together we will set up a plan to tackle your addiction. We will pay a lot of attention to the learning of new behaviour and the regulation of your emotions. Doing some written exercises in between the session might be part of the treatment.
