Anxiety Testing & Assessment

Is anxiety getting in the way of the life you want to live?

Anxiety testing & assessment

Feeling worried from time to time is a normal part of life. But when anxiety becomes persistent — when it follows you into sleep, into relationships, into work, into the quiet moments of an ordinary day — it is no longer something to push through alone. It is something to understand, and to address.

For expats, anxiety can be especially complex. The pressures of adapting to a new country, navigating a foreign system, managing a career in a second language, or simply feeling far from the people who know you — all of these can amplify anxiety in ways that are difficult to recognize and even harder to name.

A professional psychological assessment is the first step toward understanding what you are experiencing — and toward meaningful, lasting change.

What Is an Anxiety Assessment?

An anxiety assessment is a comprehensive evaluation conducted by a qualified psychologist to understand your unique experience of anxiety. It goes far beyond a self-help quiz or an online checklist.

The assessment process includes:

  • A detailed clinical interview exploring your history, current symptoms, and daily functioning
  • Standardised, validated psychological tools to measure the nature and severity of your anxiety
  • An exploration of how anxiety is showing up in your relationships, your work, and your sense of self
  • A feedback session with your psychologist to discuss findings, clinical recommendations and agree on next steps

Important: Online anxiety tests can be a useful starting point for self-reflection. They cannot, however, provide a diagnosis. Only a qualified mental health professional can assess and diagnose an anxiety disorder — and only a proper assessment can guide effective treatment.

How we can help

Anxiety in adults often goes unrecognized for years — particularly for expats who have learned to attribute their symptoms to the natural stress of living abroad. You may recognize some of these experiences:

  • Panic attacks — sudden, intense waves of fear with physical symptoms
  • Persistent worry that is difficult to control, even when there is no clear reason for it
  • Restlessness, irritability, or a constant feeling of being on edge
  • Difficulty concentrating, or finding that your mind goes blank
  • Physical symptoms — racing heart, shortness of breath, muscle tension, headaches
  • Sleep disturbances — difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking with a sense of dread
  • Avoiding situations, people, or places that trigger anxiety
  • A sense that worry is consuming more and more of your mental energy

For expats specifically, anxiety is often compounded by the disorientation of cultural adjustment, the loss of a familiar support network, the pressure to appear capable and settled, and the particular exhaustion of managing daily life in a language or culture that is not your own.

At Expat Psychologist, we have been working with internationally mobile individuals since 2009. We understand that anxiety in the expat context is not simply clinical — it is personal, cultural, and contextual. Our assessments are conducted in a language you are comfortable in, by a psychologist who understands your world.

Following your assessment, we will work with you to develop a tailored treatment plan. This may include individual therapy using evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or other methods suited to your specific needs and goals.

You do not have to keep managing this alone. With the right understanding and the right support, genuine change is possible.
